Workshop of 5 – Final Details

Finally! The final planning has been done and most of the arrangements for the Workshop of 5 is in place. All we need is for you to book your place.

The final dates for the workshop are the 4th and 5th of June 2010. Over the two days the workshop will take place in two different locations to boost your creativity and to give you a relaxed learning environment. The first day of the workshop will be at Cafe Felix in Riebeek Kasteel and the second day will be at Laetreuo Guesthouse in Welgemoed. These two spots are a bit apart, but the content will so be worth it. As part of the workshop, lunch and hot beverages (coffee/tea) will be served each day. The cost of this 2-day workshop is R 2500. To book your seat, e-mail me (info@duwayne.co.za) and I will send you the bank details to pay your deposit of R 1000. As the name says, there is only space for 5 photographer. The first 5 to pay their deposits, will secure their seats at the workshop. Here is a brief run down of the two days:

Day 1: Friday 4th of June

Venue: Cafe Felix, Riebeek Kasteel

Topics & Sessions: Introduction, Composition, Shooting with Natural light, Shooting with Speedlight/Video Light, Location Scouting, Posing & Directing, Photoshoot with Models, Q & A Time

Day 2: Saturday 5th of June

Venue: Latreuo Guesthouse, Welgemoed

Topics: Marketing, Branding, Workflow & Business Management, Clients, Editing, Album Layout & Design, Crit on the pictures photographed the previous day, Final Q & A.

What’s with the name? This is a creative workshop that only 5 photographer can attend. It is easier for people to learn in smaller groups. This way I want to give input to each person attending and see where I can coach & mentor them in their area of needs.

What is the subject matter and who can attend this workshop? I will be teaching from a perspective to being a creative wedding photographer and how to apply this into your business/photography. But most of the principles and concepts can be applied to other fields of photography (like portraiture). So anyone is welcome. You will also need to know a little bit more about photography than just a hobby. See this as in investment into your photography career.

What is the aim of the workshop? To inspire, refresh and send you back with new hope and passion!

What do I need to bring along? Digital SLR camera for the photoshoot, lenses and something to make notes.

Ashley & Carmen’s Wedding at Mountain Shadows

Finally, here are the wedding pictures from Ashley & Carmen’s Wedding. They got married at Mountian Shadow in Paarl.. Carmen and her bridesmaid got dressed at one of the cottages of Laborie. Ashley and Carmen have a beautiful little baby girl, Adrianne. She looked so cute with her little shoes and dress on the day. The venue is situated at the foot of the Drakenstein Mountains which makes a stunning setting a great special occasion like this. These where my favorite images from their wedding day. I paged through the online Magazine, Konfetti, and I found one of my pictures in the magazine. It is a picture from Aaron & Lizaan’s wedding that I photographed last year at Dornier. Konfetti is an hip South African online Bridal magazine and it free! They always showcase beautiful weddings and creative ideas for your wedding day. My image is on page 8 in the “Real Brides, Real Dresses” artical.

5 Great Years and Still Going Strong…

Today is my birthday. This week is extra special for me, because I am also celebrating the 5th year of my photography business. I started out exhibiting the little work that I had at that time at the Canal Walk Bridal Expo 5 years ago. From there onwards I have never looked back. Over the last 5 years I have build up my business and have grown so much in my photography. They say that most businesses fails within the first 5 year of their exitance. I am truly thankful for having a great photography business that came through a lot of trials to where it is today. I am truly a happy man! I enjoy life and my work! With all the good and the bad that comes with the job, I will not trade it for anything else in the world. Through my photography, I have traveled to new places, met new people and had some awesome experiences. A big THANK YOU goes out to God (the source of my creativity), my wife (Zani), our daughter (Amelie), our families, friends, our church, my photography friends, all my clients (bridal couples) and everyone who has inspired me over the years. I leave you with two pictures that Jean Pierre Uys photographed of me a year ago today on my birthday. Cheers for the last 5 years and cheers for more to come. I can not wait to see where I my photography adventures will take me next…

Workshop of 5

I have been working on this concept for a while and I think that it is the right time to reveal it. This is the fifth year of my photography business and I want to give something back to other people. I have been busy putting together content for creative workshop for photographers. I call it: Workshop of 5. Here is a brief outline of this course.

What is the aim of the workshop? To inspire, refresh and send you back with new hope and passion!

How long will the workshop be? This will be a 2-day workshop that will take place over a weekend (Friday & Saturday). I want to include enough time for teaching, applying of knowledge and some time to get to know each other. Part of the workshop will include a photo shoot with bridal models.

The venue, final dates, workshop content and costs will be announced in the near future. The workshop will take place in the middle of the year. David & Erin’s Wedding at Bloemendal

David & Erin got married on the last day of 2009. We started off the day in Hout Bay, traveled to Maitland for the ceremony and ended up at Bloemendal, outside Durbanville. They and their guests partied the rest of the evening into the new year with great tunes and food. Bloemendal is located on the highest hill in the Northern Suburbs and from the top you can view most of the Cape Peninsula. We started out at the bottom of the hill and worked our way up to the top. Here are some of the images that I loved.

Ben & Natasha’s Wedding at Pampoenkraal

The union of a Springbok and an All Black. Ben is originally from New Zealand and he met Natasha while she was working there. They decided to get married in South Africa and chose Pampoenkraal, outside Durbanville, as the venue for the big day. They wanted to get married on the beach, but this plan never worked out. So they decided that we should take some pictures on the beach before the ceremony, because they really love the beach. So we hopped into my car, drove to Derde Steen and took a few pictures of them having fun on the beach. The ceremony took place in a little forest at Pampoenkraal where they stood on top of a little hill so that all their gueest could see them. As the sun was setting, it was another great opportunity to photograph them in the fields next to the venue in beautiful natural light. Hope you enjoy the images!

Christoph & Thalia’s Greek Wedding at the Le Vendôme Hotel

My first big fat Greek wedding! What a awesome day. The bride, Thalia (Greek) stayed in South Africa until she met the man of her dreams a the 2007 Rugby World Cup in France. Christoph grew up in Paris, France, but also have a bit of Spanish in his blood. Why do I mention these things? Because I love working with people. I try and take a sincere interest in their daily lives to produce better photos for their special day. They got married in the beautiful Greek Orthodox Church in Woodstock, Cape Town. Then we traveled to the Gardens in town to photograph the family and the couple photos. The city was busy that day. It was the Coon Carnival in Cape Town that day and it made traveling almost inpossible to get around. But we managed and finally arrived at Le Vendôme Hotel in Sea Point for their reception. After all the speeches and the main course was finished, the plates came out and the dancing was started. Christoph & Thalia, All of the best for your new life in France. Thank you for the opportunity to photograph your wedding. I had a ball at this wedding and now it is time to reveal the result. Cheers, “Εις υγεία” & “À la vôtre”!

Cobus & Louise’s Wedding at Asara

Here comes the first wedding post for the week. Cobus and Louise got married at the in the St. Mary’s Church in Stellenbosch and their reception were held at the Asara Wine Estate & Hotel. Louise looked so beautiful in her dress. A marimba band entertained the guest while canapés & drinks were served. I ended off the day with a last few shot of the couple at the bar. There were many beautiful moments at this wedding but I think the shots in the bar were my favorite of the day. Decide for yourself and enjoy the pictures!

Glitches on the Blog Sorted Out

Since I moved over to the new blog, there were a few glitches on this blog that were reported by people who visited the site. All the old posts from my old blog were not displaying any pictures when you visit the archives or any of the categories. This is finally sorted out now! Thank you to everyone who notified me on this matter and waiting patiently for the problem to be fixed. Now you can view all my older post from my old blog.
