Highlights & Favorite Wedding Photos of 2011

Jip, it’s that time of the year when I sit down & share some of the highlights of the past year. This is just my way of being thankful for everything over the last year, big or small. I have also uploaded a few of my personal favorite images of 2011.

Family first… we were thrilled to hear the good news that Zani was pregnant agian. Our small little family of 3 is growing. The due date is around the corner. We’ll be putting up a new post soon on the latest edition to the Denton family in the next few weeks to come.

2011 started of with a big bang when I heard that one of my photos was chosen to be one of Junebug’s Best of the Best 2010. This was a wonderful moment in my photography courier. I have learned through this process to never give up, not to be too hard on yourself and to believe.

It was also great presenting workshops on my own and alongside some other great photographers in South Africa (like High Noon Shootout). I learned so much form teaching people and I hope that more teaching opportunities will follow in the next few years.

But one of my highlights for of the year was defiantly shooting 2 international weddings. One was my brother’s wedding in Russia and the other was Pim & Claudia’s wedding in Holland. It has always been my dream to do both photography and travelling together. It was also a great privilege to have had Zani along on the journey.

I would like to thank all my wedding couples, clients and visitors on the blog. It’s because of you that I push to create more beautiful art. Have a wonderful Christmas and hope that 2012 will be a great year for you. Here is my favorite some of my personal favorite images of 2011. God Bless!

Wedding Moments – Through the Car Window

I love this moment that I’ve captured at Heinrich & Riana’s wedding at Val de Vie. The bride came out of the house accompanied by her bridesmaids and flower girl. I awaited patiently from the other side of the car. Thanks Christelle Rall for taking the photo of me.

I recently photographed a few dresses of Laceblossom at the beautiful venue, Hawksmoor House. This was a total different look than the previous shoot that I photographed last year. Big thanks to Erna & Zani from Laceblossom, Hawksmoor House, Helga Bridal Hair & Make-up, 1085 Artist Management (models – Zilke & Peach), Ice Genetics (Candice) and Lilly Blue for the accesories. Saint Petersburg | From another point of view

This was not my wedding, but I really loved these two images. During the week in Saint Petersburg, I’ve walked past quite a few couples as their wedding photos are being taken. This city is a hotspot for photographers. I’ve photographed these two images on our one of our daily trips around the city.

Junebug Weddings – Best of the Best 2010

On Tuesday morning the 4th of January, I got this e-mail that brought tears of joy to my eyes. One of my images was selected to be part of The Best of the Best 2010 – The Best Wedding Photos of the Year by Junebug Weddings.

Junebug Weddings is a wedding planning resource and online magazine designed to gives couples fresh ideas and tips for their wedding day. Every year they compile a fashion report where they announce the best wedding photos of the year. The images selected each year are mind blowing and truly inspirational.

When I saw which image they selected for the collection, I started to cry. It was the images photographed at Lace Blossom’s Bridal shoot; one of the shoots I will always remember and hold close to my heart. Lace Blossom is bridal couture business started by my wife, Zani, and a friend, Erna (another reason why this meant so much to me). I was at a point where I was frustrated as a photographer and even considering to stop taking pictures. All the hard work and stress of the year starting was getting to me and really stealing my joy. But after I photographed this shoot I felt strength to carry on. As I looked at the images on my camera’s LCD, it felt like God was telling me to never ever to give up on the talents that he has given me; even if the going gets tuff. I did not know that these images that I photographed that day would be such a great hit.

So that is the just of it. I felt I had to share this story, because I know there are many other photographers out there going through the same things as I did. Don’t stop believing!

What a way to start 2011. I still can’t believe that one of my images was selected. I also want to congratulate Greg Lumley, fellow South African photographer, for also being nominated. A big thank you to Helga, Amore, Zani, Erna and the people at 401 Rozendal for all your help. This was a team effort and I can not take all the credit for putting together this amazing image. Video of Joy & Reggie’s Day After Shoot

This was just another fun sideline project that my brother, Desmond Denton, helped me with. He and Jonathan Myburgh came along on the day of Joy and Reggie’s Day After Shoot to film video behind the scenes. It always has been great to work with these two on film sets and learn from their field of expertise. Thanks so much Desmond, Marinus and Jonathan. I have recently worked on two movies with them where I had to photograph portraits of the actors involved. Soon I will also post these pictures and also give a bit more details about both movies. Joy & Reggie’s Day After Photos

The day after their wedding, Joy and Reggie met up with me to take some more photos. They wanted images that will reflect the feeling and the warm vibe of Cape Town. Joy had a white flower in her hair on the wedding day, so she decided to change it with a red flower for the shoot. My brother, Desmond, and a friend, Jonathan Myburgh, accompanied us to film the whole process. The most craziest spot was defiantly Green Market Square. Everybody from people walking by to the stall owners went crazy when they saw the couple and all of them wanted to be featured in a group photo. Funny when people pull out a camera how they also would like to be in the picture or seen on TV. From the big city with lots of love, here are some of their day after of the day. Nubian Bride Magazine Publication

Musa & Klea’s Wedding that I photographed earlier this year at Val de Vie has been published in the Nubian Bride Premier Issue. Nubian Bride is a new wedding magazine that is aimed at the Black market segment covering and celebrating African beauty. I feel honored and humbled since this is my first real wedding publised in a Premier Issue of a magazine. The Nubian Bride Magazine was launched at the Wedding Expo at the beginning of September and will be available at news agents nationwide and selected African countries like Nigeria; Kenya; Ghana; and Namibia. All the best to all the people behind this magazine. The first issue looks great and it is truly a sign of great things to come. Thanks again to Simone and Petra from Val de Vie. Shaun & Omelia’s Wedding at Eensgezind

Shaun & Omelia’s wedding was one of the few weddings that I photographed during the Winter Season. We first started off in Athlone where Omelia got ready, traveled to Bellville for the ceremony and ended up at Eensgezind (outside Durbanville) for their reception. That was one of the coldest weekends of the winter. At first our chances looked dim for shooting outside and not getting rained out. Thankfully there was enough time to finish their couple session between the beautiful Canola flower fields. Each guest received a football club towel or scarf as a gift at their tables.
