Wedding Photography – A Guide to Posing Book

Some of my photography work was published in a wedding photography book called “Wedding Photography – A Guide to Posing”. David Pierce, a UK photographer (Open Leaf Images) and the author of this book, contacted me in the beginning of the year. He owns the publishing company, Oliver Cameron Publishing, and he was busy working on a new book concerning the posing side of wedding photography. He asked if he could make use of some of my images and that they will be published alongside other work of other great photographers. I was more than thrilled to say yes. I recently received my copy of the book in the post and I am really impressed with this little book. It be a small book, but it is filled with great content and images.

This book offers valuable advice on how to pose your couple and it has over 500 images to inspire you. It is a pocket size image library. Some of my icons in the wedding photography world like Yervant, David Beckstead, and Kelly Morgan also have a few of their photos in the book and wrote some of the material for some of the chapters of the book. Also work of South African photographers like Sybrand Cillie, Mario Sales and Jean Pierre Uys where also published in the book. I have recently introduced this book at my workshop and it was well received by the photographers who attended it. For photographers out there who are struggling to set up your shot and want to take your photography to a new level, this book is for you. This book is part of a series of little books and the next edition, “Wedding Photography – Guide to Photojournalism” by Kelly Morgan will be published soon. I got a e-mail from Jess McCann. She has a blog called Destination Inspiration which features destination weddings around the globe and also give bridal couples advice for their big day. She said that she loved my work and if she could post one particular wedding on her blog. I was more than happy to say yes. I would like to return the favor by giving some exposure on my blog. I paged through the online Magazine, Konfetti, and I found one of my pictures in the magazine. It is a picture from Aaron & Lizaan’s wedding that I photographed last year at Dornier. Konfetti is an hip South African online Bridal magazine and it free! They always showcase beautiful weddings and creative ideas for your wedding day. My image is on page 8 in the “Real Brides, Real Dresses” artical.

First Publication in Live Out Loud Magazine

I got my first publication of my photos in the August Edition of the Live Out Loud magazine. I recently started photographing functions and events for Live Out Loud. Big thanks to Steve Hughes and Dunja Berger at Live Out Loud CT. Here is the publication on a casino evening that I photographed.

Graphic Design Projects

For those of you who did not know, I studied graphic design back in the day at Cape Town University of Technology (Cape Technikon). Photography was part of my studies and that is where my it all started for me. I used to do a lot of feelance design work while my photography business was still small. When photography took over my life, I could not keep up with all the design work. So I had to stop my design work. I had a look at all design porfolio the other day and realised how much a miss it. Sad, but I know that one day I will get opportunities in the future where I can use it again. If I look at my photography, I can see the influence of my art and design studies on my style. Here is two images where I used photography in the designs in my portfolio.

This is a movie that I did for my brother’s final short film at AFDA. My brother got a few famous Afrikaans Actors like Richard van der Westhuizen and Joanie Combrinck to act in his last Third Year Film. I was inspired by the cinematography of the movie, Gladiator, for this poster design. The movie did well at Film festivals in South Africa and in other countries. It even won a few short film awards.

This is a CD cover design that I did for the band Dropping Plates. Both two brothers, Desmond and Marinus, played guitar and drums in the band. Textured layer over the image and the contrast makes this a scary but cool album cover.
